Deichert and Akinaka were among several of the Valley Isle’s top track and field athletes to then hop over to Oahu and compete in the Cal Track/Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Invitational on Saturday at Moanalua. On Oahu, Deichert placed second in the 100 meters, Akinaka was third in the 100 hurdles, and the pair teamed with Soana Akinaka and Lola Richardson to win the 400 relay. Other top finishers from the Valley Isle on Saturday included Baldwin’s Joseph Randolph (first in boys 100 and 200) and Antone Sanches (first in boys triple jump) — both helped the Bears’ boys 400 relay place third — Seabury Hall’s Micah Brighton (second in the boys 3,000) and Maui High’s Aizek Lakalaka (second in boys shot put).
